Microsoft praises Reactiongrid...

...in a detailed case study about cost savings and virtualization

Opensource types have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the big M - this case study lends weight to the former with a detailed examination of cost savings and virtualization at Reactiongrid

Well it had to happen sooner or later - but Microsoft didn't let Reactiongrid slip under their radar. While we all love running our regions on Linux under Mono, there are many benefits to running Opensimulator on Windows 2008 in it's native C# both for region operators and end users -  as Adam outlined in his recent "How to choose a good opensim host" article.

Lets face it "big bad" Microsoft in recent years has softened it's approach somewhat by embracing opensource projects, and creating more flexible licensing. We suspect that their hidden agenda is to sell more licenses for windows servers, hyper-v and possibly visual studio - but is that really such a bad thing? Not really they are a business after all.

Enter Reactiongrid with an excellent example of how virtualization can cut server costs and improve management - exactly what everybody running grid servers need, and for Microsft adding further weight to their Hyper-V technology argument. We've dabbled with Hyper-V ourselves and it is rather good fun running virtualized linux on a windows box :) After all we run windows under Xen so why not the other way round?

So well done to the team at Reactiongrid - great to see such a postive view in the marketspace.
