Intel reveals the next gen predictive algorithms that break the 24 hour limit

This saves the HPC industry from slow decay

Press release - Oulu, Finland, 1st of April, 2010. Ten years ago it was only seconds at best that were predicted by simple dead reckoning algorithms. Neural networks, fuzzy logic and Moore's law have taken care that the prediction can be extended to periods of over 24 hours.

First of all, please forgive me that I kept this important press release in my inbox for some extra hours. It took  me some effort to publish this after we had many changes (and we are still in the progress very much) in our web magazine functionality and appearance.

1st of April, 2010 - Oulu, Finland. Today Intel revealed a next generation prediction algorithms that take advantage of many exciting technologies. With the aid of neural networks, fuzzy logic, and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) it is now possible to overcome the magical 24 hour limit in prediction techniques.

The prediction techniques are commonly used in networked multi-user virtual worlds, where connection from client to server to another client can take several seconds in bad cases. The client in the other end may need to predict what the other client is doing and show the result of this prediction to the user. A simple technique to achieve this is called "dead reckoning", where speed and direction of the movement of a remote party is kept steady. (More info can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_reckoning)

"The old technologies were bad in guessing more than a few seconds worth of future", says Mr. Lapper from Intel Labs, "The quantum leap now allows more than 24 hours of prediction, and the extensive studies show that more than 95% of the outcome is valid at the end-point."

The code is open source can be downloaded at http://rexxed.com

The process of prediction is very computationally intensive and requires 72 hours of time from a bunch of high end quad core workstations. The parallel universes included in the computation are increased towards the end exponentially and the algorithms benefit from using a lot of computers simultaneously.

This technology has enormous real life earning potential. Think about how people can start to predict lottery results, stock prices, and tomorrow's news and use the information to accumulate personal wealth - to just name a few interesting applications.

Maxping says...

This is a good opportunity for us all to start and join the effort of making the calculation time shorter than 72 hours. Please donate 5$ to me (here's my donate button) and when we get a big enough botnet to run the calculations, we will donate part of the generated income back to you. The need is about 2000$, and the payback is going to be more than 1000 times that. We guarantee to pay back 5000$ for every 5$ donation made to us. The deadline for the payback will be at the 1st of April, 2011.

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
