The viewer has been under development since December 2008 and the realXtend team has been quite silent since then. Now they released a video where the new viewer is in action. This is a must see!
realXtend team has been working silently but hard since the end
of 2008. Now it seems that the funding parties are getting bang for
the buck. The new viewer looks very slick, the frame rate is
approximated to be doubled from the previous realXtend 0.4 viewer
(approximation is based on my personal experience and watching the
youtube video).
What is really noteworthy too, is that the content is straight
from realXtend 0.4, now running on top of Opensim+modrex, and
viewed with the new viewer. So the realXtend team has managed to
retain a significant level of backwards compatibility with the old
release.
The new viewer is licensed under Apache 2.0 license, so the old
GPL restrictions are gone - which were seen as a major problem with
the old Second Life -based viewer.
The viewer is also cross-platform, and we hope to see the first
test release before Finnish summer holidays at the end of June -
but that is again my own estimate!
